Yes. You'll need to create an OpenDinks account first before you can join or register for any tournament. When signing up, please make sure to complete your profile details — specifically your Gender, Birthday, and Phone Number — as these are required for tournament registration.

No, they are not required. However, if you already have a DUPR Rating and DUPR ID, please include them in your profile — it greatly helps the committee with bracket seeding and fair match-ups.

Yes, you can register for multiple categories depending on the tournament rules. Each category requires a separate registration and payment.

Your registration will be marked as pending until the organizer verifies your payment. You will be notified once your registration is confirmed or if there are any issues.

Withdrawal policies vary per tournament. Please contact the tournament organizer directly if you need to withdraw. Refund eligibility depends on the organizer's terms.

Some tournaments include a jersey or shirt as part of the registration package. Providing your jersey size ensures you receive the correct fit during the event.

Emergency contact details are collected for your safety. In case of injury or any incident during the event, organizers need to be able to reach someone on your behalf.

You will not be able to complete your doubles registration until your partner has filled in their Gender, Birthday, and Phone Number on their OpenDinks profile. Ask your partner to update their profile first before attempting to register together.

SKILL RATING

Breakdown of what those skill labels actually look like on the court:

Novice (Rating: 2.0 – 2.99)

  • The Vibe: You’ve played a few times, know how to keep score (mostly), and can get your serve in.
  • Key Skills: You can sustain a short rally of 2–4 shots. You’re still figuring out where to stand and might occasionally forget the "Two-Bounce Rule."
  • Goal: Just keep the ball in play.

Low Intermediate (Rating: 3.0 – 3.49)

  • The Vibe: The most popular bracket. You are a "consistent" player.
  • Key Skills: You can hit medium-paced shots with some direction. You are starting to dink (soft shots into the kitchen) but can't always keep a dink rally going for long. You’re learning to move to the kitchen line together with your partner.
  • The "Tell": You have a reliable serve and return, but you probably still avoid your backhand if you can.

High Intermediate (Rating: 3.5 – 3.99)

  • The Vibe: This is where the game gets strategic.
  • Key Skills: You have a reliable 3rd shot drop and can sustain long dink rallies. You use pace, depth, and spin to force errors. You understand "stacking" and court positioning.
  • The "Tell": You rarely make "unforced errors" on easy balls, and you can transition from a hard drive to a soft reset effortlessly.

Advanced / Open Elite (Rating: 4.0 – 5.0+)

  • The Vibe: The Pros and Semi-Pros.
  • Key Skills: Extremely fast hands at the net, punishing overheads, and master-level ball placement. Every shot has a purpose.
  • The "Tell": If you leave the ball just an inch too high, they will put it away.

Self-Assessment Checklist

If you aren't sure where you fit, ask yourself these three questions:

  1. Can I sustain a 10-shot dink rally? (If yes, you are likely 3.5+ / High Intermediate).
  2. Do I know how to hit a 3rd shot drop effectively? (If no, stay in Novice or Low Interm).
  3. Am I comfortable playing at the kitchen line? (If you prefer staying at the baseline, you are likely Novice).
